Crown Imperial

Description
Thanks to its unique flower form and bright red color, this exotic perennial lures beneficial pollinators like butterflies, bees and hummingbirds to the landscape. However, hungry deer, rabbits and rodents won't bother with the plant. In fact, planting Crown Imperials in your garden protects the other flowers and plants as well. Each leafless, 24-36" tall stem features a cluster, or "crown," of large bell-shaped flowers on top. Their unusual good looks make Crown Imperials ideal for container gardens, sunny borders and cutting beds. Blooms in mid to late spring, and prefers a sun-filled, well-drained spot in which to thrive. Stems are sturdy and stay upright during the rainy spring season. Zones 3-8.
